Give Me Some Zumba

My mom has been patiently asking me to go to her Zumba class with her. She has just started going and has only been able to go a few times. So this afternoon, she asked if I could go tonight. I worked it out to take the girls to Chris at the bank and he would bring them home for supper (which I had in the oven- Crunchy Ranch Chicken) and I would go to the Y to take the Zumba class.
For those of you that don’t know me, I have absolutely no coordination. NADA. Zilch. Nothing. That fact is why both of our girls are in dance classes. (They love their dance classes so it isn’t something that I am forcing them to do). I have always been lacked self confidence in anything that required movement other than walking and at times I struggled with that. Just ask my husband. I have been known to fall down for no reason.
So I got to the Y and was nervous. I won’t lie. I was looking forward to trying the class. When we got to class we found out there was a sub. No big deal for me because I didn’t know any routines that the regular instructor did. I was pleasantly surprised. I really enjoyed it. Man did she get us moving. It was a challenge at times for me to get my arms and feet going in different directions at the same time.
The thing that I liked the most is that even though I was sweating and my heart rate was up, the class did not feel like a workout in terms of monotony. It kept my interest.
The only thing that I do not like is the time of the class: 6:10pm. Just not good for me personally with young children. That is right at dinner time and with school, our oldest has to go bed early for her to be able to function.
I will definitely be going to the class again. I might even do some research on a good Zumba DVD for me to do at home when I can’t make it to the gym. If you would like more information about Zumba you can check out www.zumba.com

NOW you’re talking!!!! Zumba ROCKS!!! Their DVD’s are awesome! If you get their set of 4, it has an intro tape (which when I did it for the first time, it made my head sweat! LOL!) that gives you the basics…I actually did it for about 3 sessions before I was brave enough to do the rest of them! (And I was a dance instructor BC…before Children!) Their cardio workout is great, but their tone and stretch is more of a cardio than their cardio workout! The other nice thing is they have a 20 minute abs work out, which is nice when you don’t have a ton of time or don’t want to get all hot and sweaty!
This is an “I always do this” kind of exercise…at least once a week for the cardio or tone and stretch, cuz I LOVE the dancing and the sweating that goes along with it! It’s also great for me cuz you get 5, 6 or 7 minutes of something then you move on to something else style-wise! It’s great!
Oh, and did I mention my WW leader is a Zumba instructor??? BONUS!!!

Cindy-
Do you have the dvds from zumba.com? I have looked at them and wondered if they were good but I can’t find any feedback from customers including negative comments. I really really enjoyed this class. I wish there was a way that I could go to the class twice a week but I don’t see that happening right now in my life with the girls so young and the time of the class. Plus I am not willing to give up two family dinners a week.
Aren’t you lucky to have a Zumba instructor for a WW leader. How cool is that?
