Just an Observation

Filed under Day to Day by at 11:43 am on Nov 16 2009

Saturday morning, I decided that I was going to amp up my workouts. I had planned on going to the Y but Chris unexpectedly went golfing since we had such beautiful weather. So my trip to the Y was out because of the girls. (Another reason I NEED our house to sell so I can get my treadmill back in our house). I figured it wouldn’t be a big deal because I had my Turbo Jam dvds that I would do. A workout was still possible.  I got home and went to get out the dvds. They were not there. Ugh. I was sure, absolutely positive I hadn’t packed up those dvds when we put our house on the market and moved some of our furniture to a storage unit. (We took out two parts of our entertainment center and those dvds were in one of the parts now no longer in our house.) I was mad. So frustrated because I thought I remembered not packing them so I could continue to use them. (again, another reason I need our house to sell. lol)

Frantically I started thinking of a backup workout that I could do. I wanted to really get my heart pumping. Suddenly I remembered that my friend, Molly, had a few of the Biggest Loser dvds. So I called Molly and begged her to let me borrow them. OK. I didn’t have to beg. She kindly let me borrow them.

I am not ashamed to admit that I am a Biggest Loser fan. I love watching the show for the motivation. I inspires me since I don’t have Jillian or Bob pushing me. I was excited to try out the Boot Camp dvd that Molly had. Saturday afternoon, the girls were playing so I decided that it was time to get my workout in.  I got my five pound weights ready and got started. It wasn’t easy. Lunges, squats, and many other forms of torture without any breaks. Bob kindly told me as I was working out that there would be no breaks because he didn’t want my heart rate to drop. Little did he know that I was about to colapse. Circuit training is the name that he had for this torture.

The dvd suggested doing the first level (week one & two) five or six times a week for two weeks then moving on to the next level. I thought that was great that it starts out not as difficult and builds on the first workout.

Saturday evening I was sore but nothing to really talk about. Yesterday morning I felt like someone had taken a baseball bat to my body. No, it wasn’t because I was fighting a cold. It was that muscles have been worked kind of pain. Little did I know yesterday that the worst was yet to come. I woke up this morning I seriously don’t know if I have ever been this sore. I thought after running the half marathon that I was sore.

Let’s just say that my body isn’t nearly as in good of shape as i had thought it was. No, I knew that I wasn’t in perfect shape but I had no idea.

This morning I had two Q-tips that I tossed towards the trash can. Well, I missed. For a minute I considered trying to pick them up but knew that if I bent down, I might not straighten up again. So those stinkin Q-tips are still on the floor. I am wearing slip-on shoes. LOL. Megan accidently pulled out one of her drawers on her dresser yesterday. There are clothes all over her floor. I have no intention of picking them up right now. I am not sure I am physically able. My thighs, shoulders, and arms feel like someone tried to beat them in to submission. Hopefully it will work.

I took yesterday off from working out. Too congested to be able to do anything. This morning the congestion is almost completely gone. I know that I have to workout again. It should be interesting to complete the workout on the dvd again today. I just keep reminding my body that eventually the pain will subside and I will be glad that I am doing this.

Last night I made an interesting observation. On the show, Biggest Loser, they never really let the viewers seem the pain that sets in after the workout. Of course the show shows how hard the workouts are etc. I think they are trying to keep it as positive as possible. I know those participants must be in a world of hurt  after they go through their workouts with Bob & Jillian.

I’d like to say that it gets easier each time you do a BL workout…but I can’t!! Each time I do it, something in me gets stretched that hadn’t been stretched before! I have the Cardio workout as well as the Tone & Stretch workout (which should just be a Cardio 2 workout! LOL!) and try to do each of them once a week because I’m switching things up during the rest of the course of the week. I go for a morning walk with my neighbor 4 or 5 mornings a week, then do something with another neighbor to torture us both…that’s where the BL DVD’s come in! Usually after the Cardio one, my glutes are in bad shape, but the last time, since I had increased the weighs I was lifting, it was my shoulders…ugh…

Their workouts don’t get any easier the more you do them…if you’re doing them the right way! But hopefully, your endurance grows and you start seeing results!

    Good luck!

and now you know why those DVDs were available and not being used!!! HA! That is an excellent point and one that I had not thought of. You are exactly right!

    Cindy-
I think I am thankful for the feedback. LOL. I will say that after doing the workout for the second time I am not as sore in the same places as I was after the first time. I think that is progress. :-) Atleast I am hopeful.
