I Finished in First!
Filed under Day to Day by kristen at 11:34 am on Oct 13 2009
I finished in first place in Muncie’s Tuesday Morning 5K~! I can’t believe it. I wasn’t even sure that I was going to run this morning let alone participate in a 5K. Never mind that I was the only participant and it wasn’t an official 5K race.
Last night I was thinking of a million AND one excuses why I could skip a run or any type of workout today. I seriously have one of the craziest weeks. Last week was a pretty laid back week and then BOOM. It all hit this week. Just to give you an idea of how crazy: Chris is gone three evenings for business, I am babysitting two different days Including one day for a small baby, I get my flu shot, Meg has speech, the girls have dentist appointments, Meg has a field trip that I am supposed to go on, both girls have dance class, I have to get Megan packed for her trip to see my sister in Colorado AND we have an open house this weekend. (Praying that we sell our house SOON so I can take the stress away). So needless to say, it is a busy busy few days.
So when I went to the Y this morning, I wasn’t sure what type of workout I was going to do. Run or elliptical. I hopped on to a treadmill and started off. Seriously I don’t know why that first mile or so it so much torture. But after I got about 1/2 of a mile in, I thought to myself “Kristen, why not run a 5K?” I would like to run more races not for the competition but for the consistency of training but the majority of races are on Saturday morning when I am at Weight Watchers working.
So I started out. Once I got past that first mile, I was shocked how well it went. I seriously think I could have gone farther than my 3.1 miles. I need new running shoes. I need to get them soon. But when I hit that 3.1 mark I even felt like I could keep going. I am not sure what happened. Maybe it was a pure fluke. Maybe I am getting past that hump in my running which would surprise me since I have only ran 3 times in the past three months (when we put our house for sale and my treadmill went to storage).
BUT I FINISHED FIRST! I did it. I ran a 5K race today. Who cares of I was racing against myself. I beat my predetermined thoughts about what I could and could not accomplish. I thinkĀ I am more proud of today’s run than when I ran the half-marathon. No training, no preparation, just did it. I finished first!
So what preconcieved thoughts are holding you back?
