Small Wonder

Filed under Day to Day by at 7:04 pm on Oct 11 2009

Yesterday and this afternoon, I noticed that I was just on edge. Just restless I guess you could say. Chris was gone so I couldn’t go to the gym. I noticed it again late this afternoon while Chris was out on his run. He got a later start because we had a birthday lunch get together for family. By the time he got home, it was dinner time. I knew that the gym would be closing and just the timing was off.

I told Chris that I was going for a walk. It was a brisk day but knew some fresh air would do me some good. I got my gym shoes on and grabbed my iPod. Once my feet hit the street, something very interesting happened. My body started running. I had no intention of running. I hadn’t worn my heart rate monitor or grabbed my Nike+. I had only intended to go forĀ  walk.

It was a perfect run. Cool. Pretty. Just me and my music. After the first lap in our neighborhood I felt so much better. So much better that I don’t even know that there are words to describe how much better. I could breath easy. I wasn’t on edge or restless. I continued for another lap. I finally stopped because I knew I had to return to my mommy duties of fixing the girls supper and helping with bedtime duties.

It was a small wonder to me. Just a simple run made such a difference. My whole physical state had improved drastically. It is something that I have known but tend to forget in the craziness of life.

Endorphins are a wonderful thing :-) Also, sometimes I think there is something very “freeing” about not running for a specific time or distance or checking to see whether you’re “in the zone” or not — just running because it feels good and most importantly because you can. It makes you realize how blessed we are to have strong healthy bodies. Have a great week!

You are so right Jenni. If we could bottle those endorphins we could be rich. :-)
