Limitations

So my trainer aka Chris said that today I needed to run 7 miles. Seven miles seemed very daunting and overwhelming. I was waiting on Chris to get home from his run so I could go out. It was such a pretty day with the sun shining but seemed a little cold. I got my freshly-charged iPod and Nike+ and headed out.
About 1.5 miles in, I was seriously doubting if I could run 7 miles. Then I started focusing on a quote I saw on an office “billboard” a few weeks ago.
Limitations live only in our mind.
So I reminded myself that I could run these 7 miles. I wouldn’t turn around & go home. I would succeed at this. And what do know!
In 1 hour & 22 minutes, I ran seven miles. SEVEN MILES!!!!! Yes, I had to walk for a short time several times. But it was actually harder to walk than run. My pace was MUCH faster than it is on the treadmill which shocked me. I cannot believe that I ran it that fast. 816 calories burnt! And to make it even sweeter, I ran 22 miles this week. That thought alone is shocking to me.
Around 5.5 miles, I got really emotional. I almost cried which sounds really strange. But I couldn’t believe that I had done it. I was going to finish. I was in shock. The farthest so far, I had ever run was five miles and that was just on Monday. The farthest I had ever (in my life) run outside was a 5K about three years ago. I blew those numbers out of the water.
I am surprised to say but I wish I had an extra month to train for the Indy Mini. I only had limitations on myself that I had set in my mind. Physically I could do it. I did it!
