Surprised Myself

I knew that I wanted to run this morning. Normally I try to squeeze it in before I have to take Megan to speech therapy. But Megan woke up in the middle of the night and wanted to sleep with us. So we put her in our bed. Anything not to lose too much sleep. After I got Sydney on the school bus, I would usually jump on the treadmill…. which is in our bedroom. ( Very romantic, huh?) Megan asleep in our bed threw a wrench in my plans.
So I went with plan B. I set out all of my running paraphernalia and took Megan to speech. The minute we walked in the after, I got Megan a snack, filled up her cup of water and got dressed to run. Meg watched me run the first mile and then went to play with her dollhouse that I got ready for her before my run.
My initial goal was to run 4 miles. I told myself that I could run the 4 miles without any walking. That was the goal. After about 3 miles, I told myself that I COULD run 5 miles. I have never ran 5 miles before. Four miles is my longest and it was November that I ran that far. It was a pure mental game. Meg was so helpful. She never came back in to the room. I really thought she had fallen asleep somewhere. With less than 1/10th a mile left, she walked in. I had considered attempting 6 miles but close to 5 my legs were really feeling it.
I did it. There is a small glimmer of hope that I can run the whole 13.1 miles. I know that I need to get off the treadmill and run outside because I know there is a huge difference between running on the treadmill vs. outside/road.
I really don’t know if I couldn’t have done it without all of the encouraging comments on the site & my facebook. I have the best readers anywhere.
So the plan is to run 7 miles on Saturday. Probably 3 or 4 miles the rest of the days. Friday is going to be my day off. That is the plan and I am sticking to it.
