I was RUNNING

Filed under Day to Day by at 12:55 pm on Mar 16 2009

OK. I have a funny story to tell. It wasn’t really funny when it happened but the more that I think about it the funnier it gets.

If you remember last Sunday I ran outside for the first time in a long time. I was so proud of myself. I was running. I was proud of my time and I was proud that I didn’t stop once to walk.

Fast forward to this weekend. I was in town and ran in to someone that lives in the area. This person commented that they saw me out walking on Sunday. WALKING??????? Seriously! I was running. Yes, I know I am not a sprinter. I am not even fast but I WAS RUNNING!!!

I was so shocked when this person told me (and I know without a doubt that this person had no idea that they had said anything wrong OR intended to mean any harm) that I didn’t know what to say. So I didn’t say anything.

I had really forgot about the comment until last night when I was talking to my brother on the phone. You have to know that I am the shortest person in my family. My brother is next in the sibling line-up and he got all of my height. He is over six foot tall. I would just love to have a couple of those inches. Chris & Matt thought that was one of the funniest things they had heard in a long time. Of course Matt had to make some loving brotherly jokes about how my running was like a normal-height person’s walking. Ha~

On a happy note, I ran again today. I took Saturday & Sunday off. I had planned on running yesterday but it just wasn’t in the cards. I made myself get on the treadmill bright & early this morning after I put Sydney on the bus. It wasn’t easy because it seems like lately I haven’t had any alone quiet time. Of course, Megan was still asleep when I got on the treadmill. It was nice not to answer the “Are you almost done?” question fifty times while I ran. I ran two miles without stopping once. Pretty proud that I didn’t stop. Tomorrow at trip to the Y is in store.

OK. I am off of here. I just finished baking 70+ cookies for the girls to take to school tomorrow for St Patrick’s Day. I still have to ice all of them.

Kristen, I completely understand and I can almost see the look on your face when it was said. It is kinda funny how we percieve ourselves differently from the way other people see us.

I bet you were RUNNING!! (For me, running is 4.9 MPH, which is fast walking for most regular height people…LOL) Congratulations for not getting your feelings hurt and keeping yourself motivated. My running is in the toilet right now. I am going to the gym early tomorrow before the closet people come….

That person must have some sort of impairment. Disregard the comment. You are a RUNNER!
