Life

Sometimes life turns kind of crazy. I made it through my surgery fine. Had great hopes of posting a quick note later in the week when I was getting back on my feet. Then life turned crazy. Our weekend went downhill.

Long long story short. Friday night Sydney (our six year old) woke up in the night and was having some sort of allergic reaction. After treating her with around the clock Benedryl, a trip to the doctor, and some oral steriods, Sydney wasn’t getting better. She continued to break out in hives/welts all over her body. These welts were six inches across or bigger. This morning she took a turn for the worse and we had to take her to the ER. After spending the day in the ER, multiple medicines, great nurses and a doctor, they finally got the hives to stop coming. We finally got to come home and have an appointment with an allergist first thing in the morning. We are just praying that they can figure out what triggered this severe reaction. She hadn’t had any new foods etc.

To top off our great weekend, we lost our water yesterday morning. Come to find out, the pump on our well went bad. Sooooooo, we have no water and won’t have water until probaby Friday. You know how it goes (or maybe you don’t) but once they get the new well in, they run bleach, then have to test it and sent the sample off to be tested. Then if the water passes we get water.

So no water makes it hard to cook, clean, do laundry, and bathe. Fun times. So, I most likely still won’t be around for a few days. I know that there have been some questions posted. I promise I will try to get to them as time allows. Right now, I am just trying to take it a few hours at a time.

I will be back.

Kristen, first off, thank God your daughter is okay now! How horrifying! Secondly, I didn’t know you had surgery. Try to take care of yourself too, I know it is hard when life is crumbling all around you. And the water, that sure is a challenge. It is horrible when you get dealt a hand like that. Please take care, and try to stay sane this week. I think your hourly approach is a good one. I’ll be thinking of you and yours,

    Lisa

Kristen, what a terrible weekend, for you, Chris, and especially Sydney. And it must have been terrifying that a cause couldn’t be pinpointed. Hopefully, the allergist can make some discoveries. Fortunately, most allergies can be managed well. Let’s just hope it is not something she truly loves!! My understanding is that anyone can develop an allergy to anything at any time.

Todd has a good friend who is a great allergist and can make a recommendation for someone in your area if you need it.

As for the water situation, I suggest going to a hotel for a few days. I know it can be expensive, but maybe you can find an extended stay place and pay for the week. It is usually much cheaper than daily rates and has a kitchen, etc. And you would have water for showers…..

I hope that everything works out for the best with Sydney. Hopefully, they will be able to pinpoint what caused the reaction. I totally understand the water issue. I went through a whole year washing my hair with water brought from other people’s houses. Our well water was orange, with rust, and we had to wash allof our white clothes at my grandmother’s house. Getting “city” water ran out to the country was a God-send!!! Get a hotel! You’ll be happier and sainer for it.
    Good Luck!

Sounds like you’ve been having a rough time lately. Hope things get better soon, and that they find out what your daughter is allergic to.

I don’t miss living in the country, that’s for sure. My parents had a well, and the water had iron in it … Sometimes, it turned our white clothes rusty.
