Truvia

For as long as I can remember there has been debate on artificial sweeteners. Stevia has been on the market for a little while but it has been pricey and sometimes hard to find.
Recently, a new sweetener hit the market: Truvia
I found Truvia at Meijer last week. There are 40 individual packets in the box. Each packet is equal to 2 teaspoons of sugar. The consistency of Truvia kind of reminds me a white sugar. It isn’t a powder.
Here is what I found about Truvia (most of which is listed on the box and the rest from my own research.
Truvia sweetener is made from the rebiana which comes from the sweet leaf of the stevia plant, native to South America. Stevia is part of the chrysanthemum family. Dried stevia leaves are steeped in water (similar to making tea). This releases the sweetness from the leaf which is purified to provide a calorie-free sweet taste. Most other stevia sweeteners are made with several different part of the stevia plant where Truvia only uses the rebiana part of the stevia.
Truvia is safe for diabetics to use. You can also use Truvia in baking but at this time there isn’t a bulk size available.
I think there is a slight pear taste to it. I do like it. I don’t think there is a bitter taste like in some artificial sweeteners. I don’t use any sweetener in my coffee. So my first opportunity to use Truvia was in my oatmeal. I thought that it added a nice taste. It didn’t interfer with the flavor of the oatmeal and wasn’t overly sweet by adding in one packet.

I have had the Truvia and like it as well. It is far more granular than its counterparts, but I like the taste of it the best of them all. No aftertaste. It does take a while to dissolve, especially on cold things (I had it on my grapefruit and in my applesauce) and I do like it! I’ll be getting it again, and it will be nice to have it in bulk!

I’m sold on Splenda and even the Wal Mart brand called Altern (guess it’s supposed to mean Alternative). In fact, I like the Altern better than the Splenda. It’s really–airy, fluffy-no other way to describe it. It’s about $1.00 cheaper than Splenda in the bulk size. I use it everyday in my coffee!!

Hi. I really like the Truvia. It is sweet, doesn’t have a bitter after-taste, and doesn’t bother my tummy. As for Splenda, I do have tummy issues with it. Some sweetener, I’m not sure which, actually causes welts on my tongue. So far, Truvia has been the best for me. I also like it because it is a natural sweetener.

Please do check out the research for Splenda. It decreases probiotics, increases fecal pH, accumulates in your system, is easily absorbed by the cells and its molecular design is to kill our cells and can cause mutations. It is in the family of chlorocarbons and tends to behave in the same way. DDT is an example of a chlorocarbon which has been banned. Basically it is a carcinogen so avoid it, and other artificial sweeteners, like a bad disease.
