Back Home in Indiana

Well, I am back home. We had an awesome trip. It was so nice to get away for a few days without the girls and just be a couple without any responsibilities. When we landed in Vegas, it was sunny. Oh how nice it was to see the sun and know that it does exist in the winter. We don’t see the sun too often in Indiana during the winter. It wasn’t super warm. Mid 50′s but it sure was warmer than the 10 degrees we left in Indianapolis.
Chris & I walked and walked and walked some more. I didn’t have my pedometer. I ran out of time to set up the stride length on my new pedometer. It wasn’t worth stressing over with so many other things to do like packing Friday night before falling in to bed. All of the walking started to bother my ankle/leg. Rewind to Friday.
While Megan was at school on Friday, I had a million errands to run. It was sooooo cold here in Muncie. Windchill was 1 degree. It was brutal. I knew that I was going to try to get in a short run Friday afternoon but decided to be creative while shopping. I was going to run in all of the parking lots to get in to the stores faster and try to not turn in to a popsicle. The plan was working fine. Sure I was getting some funny looks as I was running pushing my carts but I really didn’t care. On my fifth stop, I was running the cart back to the cart coral when it happened. I rolled my left ankle. I about fell but caught myself on the guards for the cart coral. I had some pain but it wasn’t terrible. Right at that time, my cell phone rang so I didn’t think much more about my ankle. It was still tender and I figured it was best not to run which worked out because I ran out of time doing things for the trip. Fast forward to Saturday morning.
My ankle wouldn’t let me forget that I had rolled it on Friday morning. Ouch. It was really bothering me. I had pain all the way down to my toes and up to my shin. I couldn’t rotate my ankle without pain. It really concerned me. But I just plugged along. No way was a little sprained ankle going to ruin this trip.
Saturday evening, we ate a great little Italian place in New York New York. They made all of their pasta fresh on site or had it shipped in from Italy. I hate a great dish that I hope to recreate. I seriously think it was the best Italian food I have ever had. We went to bed early because Chris was wearing out after getting up so early, the long flight, and all of our walking.
Sunday morning came way too early. We got up and headed to the start line of the race. Chris had a good race. After he cleaned up, we walked some more and saw the different sites. We walked and walked and walked some more. Then Chris treated us to a special meal. My favorite place on earth to eat is Bobby Flay’s Mesa Grill. We ate there in March when I went with Chris on his trip. Chris made reservations this time for brunch. We called it our victory dinner since Chris had a good race. Mesa Grill never fails to deliver. I enjoyed everything I ate and ate it knowing that I would have to get back to my “regular” way of eating once I got home. I didn’t eat it with guilt but enjoyed every bite. Chris joked and he couldn’t eat or drink the rest of the day because he didn’t want to forget how everything tasted. LOL.
We finished off the trip with walking some more. I flew home yesterday early evening and Chris stayed for the business part of his trip. I am happy to report that my ankle is feeling much better this morning. The plan is to run after I take Megan to school. We will see how it feels.
Hope you have enjoyed the random pictures. Here is one last one. I figured out how to use the timer on my new camera. The camera was an early Christmas gift from Chris. I convinced him to let me have it early so I could take it on our trip.
One last note, while I was gone I read the best non-fiction book I have read in a long long time. I laughed so hard I cried. I will be posting a review soon.
Thanks for reading,
K

Ya’ll look great!! Happy and in love!! Glad Chris’ race went well and you had such a good time!! The last time I was in LV they were just starting to build NY, NY!! Shows how long ago it was. Take good care of that ankle. You might want to wrap it or wear a support. A sprain/strain can take longer to heal than a break if you have stretched tendons and ligaments. You don’t want to cause any permanent damage that will cause you to suffer for a long time and jeopardize your running efforts. That’s advice from a retired Orthopedic nurse!!!!
