Not as Good As I Remember
Filed under Day to Day by kristen at 5:57 am on Dec 05 2008
Isn’t it funny when you think about a food. You remember how good it tasted. You can’t wait to eat some more because it was just the best thing ever. I had been thinking so much about those Mint Truffle Hershey Kisses. I wrote about those evil little chocolates in I am a Winner Even Though I Didn’t Lose. Last week, my friend, Tammy called and asked if I needed anything from the store before she came over. Well……….. I don’t know what I was thinking? I asked her to get me some potatoes (which I had forgot the two times I was at the store) and some Mint Truffle Hershey Kisses. Maybe they would have less calories if someone else bought them? If only that were true.
So I had a bag of these in my possession. I had thought about them for the last year. I had resisted buying many times this Christmas season already. And now I had a bag in my house. My mind must have been playing tricks on me for the last year. I ate one. Hm. It was good but not out-of-this-world that I had remembered.
Isn’t that how it is so often. We think about a certain food almost to the point of obsession. We build up in our minds to be so wonderful. Then we eat it and it wasn’t what we remembered. So why waste the calories? Why waste the energy on those crazy foods.
No more Mint Truffle Kisses for me. Not buying any more. Not worth it. The memories taste a lot better.
I appreciate every one’s help in passing the word about my “new” site and the December Contest. There is still plenty of time to pass the word to others so you have a chance to win this great prize package. I have started buying some of the goodies for the three prizes.
Chris & I are headed to Vegas for a short trip. Chris is running the Vegas Half Marathon on Sunday morning. We are looking forward to a little time away without the girls. I will be home on Monday. I have a food review ready to post. It is something that is soooo super yummy. I love it and can’t wait to share it will all of you.
I think that is all for now. Remember that this isn’t a six week eating-fest. It is just single days. Don’t lose ground on your journey just because of dates on a calendar.
Oh, in case you were curious. I threw the Mint Tuffle Kisses in the trash. Just not worth it.

I could write a book on foods which Id built up in my head only to have some and think:
really? REALLY!? did they change the recipe.
sadly this all has me wondering if Id still adore chocolate poptarts in toaster and buttered like I once did

I so understand what your saying!!! I’m a Coke (legal kind) addict but haven’t been drinking them at all. Just my water and coffee. I had one on Thanksgiving and it wasn’t as good as it used to be. In fact, it had a funny taste and it bloated my stomach. So even though I thought I’ve been deprivating myself–I haven’t!!! Good for you tossing them!!! If not, you might have kept trying them to find the one that used to taste so good!! LOL!!!! Tell Chris “Good Luck” on Sunday and congrats that you get a few days “off” to enjoy each other. Have a great time–Vegas is fun!!!!

You know, I still have a partial bag of those in the pantry from LAST Christmas. They sounded delicious, but didn’t taste nearly as good as they sounded. (Now, those cherry cordial ones are another story. Not buying any of those because I’d eat the whole bag!)
