I Did It! And My Challenge

Filed under Day to Day,Quotes by at 1:36 pm on Sep 25 2008

OK. I am proud of myself. Not a major thing but after my state of mind the last week, I was proud of myself. I went to the Y for the second time in three days. Tuesday night I went to my yoga class. Then I went to the Y and spent 28 minutes on the elliptical machine. I wasn’t ready to get off but it was time for my yoga class. Two miles! Yeah for me. It is so true how much better you feel when you work out. It is crazy how quickly we forget that.

It is always hard for me to start working out. It seems so overwhelming to get in physical shape. I was on the road before I got sick two years ago and it just seems like I can’t get my momentum.

I read this quote in my Weight Watcher challenge group. Thanks Alicia for this great quote!

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.” ~ Mark Twain

Thinking about going to the Y three or four times a week or working out at home that much just seems too much. We are so busy. I have so much going. Megan hopefully will be starting additional speech therapy (crossing our fingers she is accepted in to the new program), Sydney and her activities, etc etc. There isn’t much time. So my goal for the next month (through the end of October) is to workout once a week not including my yoga class. I know it doesn’t seem like much. But if I start and take a small step then hopefully I can continue to add to it. Just typing that I am committing to once a week doesn’t seem like enough. I always try to start and am too ambitious and set myself up for failure.

So, anyone want to join me and making a specific goal for October. I know it is a little early but I would rather start now than wait. :-)

I started my overwhelming task. I took the first step. I have broken it down. Who is joining me??????

I work out three times a week in the early (very early–5am) morning at the gym in Dunkirk. I also go to the adult fitness program at Delta High School every Tuesday and Thursday night. If you are interested in going, it is free and your whole family (including kids) can go. It is from 7-9pm. You can walk, run, play badminton, volleyball, swim, use the weight room, do exercise videos, play tennis, basketball, ping pong, or shuffleboard. It lasts almost till school is out in May. It is very hard for me to get up at 4:30 in the morning and go to the gym. Especially in the winter, but it makes me feel so much better when I go. I’m right there with you! go..go…go!!!

    MizFit-
Good for you! I ran two 5Ks before getting sick. It was such a great feeling. I hope to get back to more serious running.

Baby steps are great. Have you checked out any running programs? I have one that I would be willing to share if you would like. Just let me know!
