Fiber One Toaster Pastry

This is one of those things that I am not sure why I even bought it. As kids, we never had Pop-Tarts. I cannot ever remember my Mom buying Pop-Tarts. In college, I can remember having a couple. Not something that I ever loved or something I craved. But of course, when I saw the new item from Fiber One when I was shopping at Super Walmart, I couldn’t resist buying a box. There were three flavors: strawberry, blueberry, & brown sugar cinnamon. I picked out strawberry. On my box, it also lists chocolate fudge as one of the options. Shoot! I wish I would have known that. By now, you know me & my chocolate “thing”. Just joking.
The box toats that “each pastry has at least 16 grams of whole grams & 20% daily value of fiber”. So the statistics on this new little pastry is impressive.
Here is my complaint! The nutritional value for one pastry is 190 calories, 4 grams fat, 5 grams fiber. The serving size is one pastry. Do you have any idea where I am going with this? There are two pastries in each invdividual package! So there are TWO servings in each little wrapper. I don’t have a Pop-Tart box to compare but I would venture a guess that that is the same serving size. It honks me off to no end when companies package more than one serving in a package. I know that people don’t have to eat both servings when they unwrap the package. But people tend to eat both servings. It is hard to resist when there are two servings right there.
I ate one of the pastries. I gave one to Sydney. She took a bite and gave the rest back. She has probably not had more than two Pop-Tarts in her life. Megan just looked at it and wouldn’t even take a bite.
Since I wasn’t a regular Pop-Tart consumer, I decided to have Chris try them out. Chris ate them occasionally in college. So this morning, I put one in the toaster on the lowest setting.
Chris’ first comment was that it wasn’t as sweet as the original. Otherwise, Chris said he couldn’t tell a difference. He said that he would eat it again.
I probably won’t buy these again unless Chris requests them. I think if you were a Pop-Tart lover then these might be just for you.
I was curious & looked up the nutritional value for a “regular” Pop-Tart. For one regular toaster pastry: 210 calories, 6 grams fat, 0.5 grams fiber. So there is a slight difference. So you decide.

Hi, I ran across your comments when I googled Fiber One Pop Tart Nutrition Information. I am a Weight Watcher and needed to calculate the points in 1 pastry. While there is not a huge difference in the calories or fat from Kellog’s brand, I cannot get over how much better I feel since I started eating 30-35 grams of fiber a day. I would recommend these to anyone!

Amanda,
I am glad that you “found” me. That is crazy that you were able to find me through Goggle. How crazy! I totally agree about the fiber. Ever since I had our second daughter, my body has required a lot more fiber.

Kristen,
I was not a “pop-tart” girl either. I always thought they were too sweet, and then not worth the points value when I started WW. I like these precisely because they are not so sweet, and lower in points. I got the brown sugar cinnamon, mostly because I don’t like cooked fruit. I did think the pastry bit was a little crumbly, probably because of the low fat content. They will stand as an “in a pinch” breakfast when I am on the go or at work when I have forgotten to replenish my regular stock. At least they are a bit of a better choice for us WWers!

I LOVE these things! And, as a Weight Watcher myself (what a lame name for a great program; I usually tell people I’m on “points”….) even if you eat both tarts, you’ve still only consumed 7 of your daily points allowed. I burn that off at the gym, and then some! Plus 7 points is still a very, very reasonable number for a meal. You’re hard-pressed to get adequate nutrition & energy on fewer points than that in one sitting.

Hi Kristen, I also googled Fiber One Pop Tart and found you. I always loved the pop-tarts with no icing, so am bummed that they all have icing, or I’d definitely have one for breakfast, as I’m a WW too…..maybe I’ll start a campaign to get them to remove the icing…….love your blog

I love these poptarts as well. I work out in the morning and have about 30 min. in between work out and ready to leave and an hour drive to work. These with a glass of milk is my usual breakfast. I am also a WW and just found this website the same way the others did. GO US!

I also found you via Google.
I was given Pop-Tarts from time to time when was a child, and I considered them a treat that I enjoyed. By the time I was a teenager, however, they had begun to lose their appeal; as an adult, I’ve always found them to be pretty unappetizing. I thought the brown sugar variety from Fiber One was pretty good, though. I think the texture is much more pleasant than that which I can remember from Kellogg’s. I didn’t notice a big difference in sweetness, but I’m not a big Pop-Tart-eater so I’m hardly an expert in that arena. Overall, the nutrition facts are decent but certainly not stellar, and the taste is pretty good if you know what to expect from toaster pastries. I will probably buy them again if they go on sale, but I seriously doubt that they’ll ever become a regular fixture in my cupboard.
Oh, and I couldn’t agree more on those packaging annoyances! That’s been a pet peeve of mine for years.

I also wrote about this product on http://www.lifeadvicesite.com/Food_Reviews – Maybe if they see enough of these comments across the web and blogosphere, they’ll make us a low-fat version with ONE per pouch!

These are/were th best out there. I checked all the other brands even organic. They all have too many carbs (sugar) They should not have been discontinued. They only have 3 WW. points; all the others have 5 and 6 WW. pointsI am buying up as many as I can find on Amazon Wishlist. Rats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
