Repeat of Hope vs. Determination

In the beginning of January, I posted a blog entry about a lightbulb moment that I had. I decided that since I mention this to so many people when they email me, that I would repost this blog entry again. I made a little addition today.
Are you determined or just hoping to lose the weight?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had a major light bulb moment about my weight loss journey Sunday at church. I know…. a very strange place to have a light bulb moment about weight loss. But let me explain. Our pastor, Pastor Tracy Gorman, was explaining this year’s resolution for our church since it is the beginning of the year. To explain the resolution he used this example about the difference between hope vs. determination. ”There is a huge difference between hoping to lose 15 pounds and being determined to lose 15 pound.” Hmmmm. It all made sense in that one statement. For all of those 15 years, I was just hoping to lose all of my extra weight. I didn’t take the steps necessary to lose the weight. Oh, I might have put some half-hearted effort in. But I sure wasn’t determined. Last April when I started WW, I knew that nothing would stand in my way. I was determined to get the job done once & for all.
Are you determined? Or are you just hoping to lose the weight? Are you truly making the changes necessary to get the weight off? To make this a life-long journey? If it is 15 pounds, 50 pounds, or 150 pounds that you want to lose, are you determined? You aren’t going to wake up one morning and the weight has just magically fallen off. I had hoped for that so many times. Never happened.
Thanks to Pastor Tracy for giving me permission to use your quote! You are a great pastor & friend.
Now I am determined. Determined to lose the final few pounds. Determined to keep the weight off! It is a journey. A journey that I am determined to stay on.
